Super-sub Mc Tominay Rescues Three Points For Man United Against Omonoia Nicosia.

Following some bad finishing and a stellar performance by Omonoia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, Manchester United team was saved by a Scott McTominay's injury-time goal.

After beating the Cypriot team 3-2 last week, Erik ten Hag's team had a fright, but few anticipated anything other than a convincing victory when the Red Devils played their first home game in five weeks.

Uzoho who was a backup goalkeeper last Thursday, started in place of the impressive Fabiano due to an injury. At Old Trafford, the lifelong United supporter gave a stellar performance to remember.

He is a boyhood United fan and vowed he would "die" in goal against them.

The Nigerian international who was blamed for his country's failure to secure World Cup qualification, made some crucial saves, keeping out 11 of United's 12 shots on target.

He denied an attack led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Antony a chance at goal, but substitute McTominay sealed a 1-0 triumph in the third minute of stoppage time.

The victory moves United closer to qualifying, but taking first place in Group E is still essential to avoiding a two-legged playoff against one of the third-place teams from the Champions League group stage.

Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan, Ajax, Sporting Lisbon, Atletico Madrid or Sevilla could be part of the teams to drop to the Europa League.

"In this team there is a lot of creativity and scoring capabilities. Sometimes you have a night where you will not succeed. Today was that night," said Ten Hag after the game.

"But the good thing was the team keep going and they don't give up. They keep believing and in the end we get the reward. That is the way we have to do it.

"I am really happy with that. It is about the spirit in the team and the squad. It is not just about the 11 players.

"Sometimes it works like that. Substitutes can have an impact when they have the right attitude and the right focus."

The competition for first place in the last group E match is against Real Sociedad on November 3. The Spanish team are yet to drop points after cruising past Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0.
