Eriksen, Rashford Scores As Man United Beat Burnley In The League Cup Round-of-16 Game.

 Manchester United finally returned to football action on Wednesday night in the League Cup following the thrilling conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Sunday.

It's been five weeks since United were last in competitive action when they defeated Fulham with a late Alejandro Garnacho winner on November 13.

Erik ten Hag's side, failed to win any of their three friendlies against Cadiz, Real Betis and Everton during the break using most of the academy prospects.

They headed into the game against Burnley at Old Trafford without the services of Raphael Varane, and Lisandro Martinez who are understandably not involved tonight following their involvement in Argentina's triumph over France but Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, and Tyrell Malacia are all in the starting XI.

The Red Devil's defeated Burnley 2-0 in the round-of-16 of the Carabao Cup, as they advance to the quarter-finals.

A long ball floating towards the back post looks to be going out of play, before Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaped up and acrobatically plays the ball back across the box to find the Dane Christian Eriksen who converted in style in the 27th minute.

In the second-half, Rashford added a second in the 57th minute with a fine solo effort, dribbling from the half-way line and beating three Burnley defenders in the process, before converting from inside the box with a low shot into the bottom left corner.

They could face either Wolves, Southampton, Newcastle, Leicester City, Charlton, Nottingham Forest, or Man City/Liverpool in the next round.
