PSV Star, Cody Gakpo Is Now Convinced To Join Man United In January.

PSV forward, Cody Gakpo, is still very much eager on completing a move to Manchester United in January.

PSV who are reportedly facing some financial constraints, needs to sell players, and Gakpo born in Eindhoven to a Togolese father and a Dutch mother, understands the club's predicament, and he is willing to move sooner rather than later to find a quick resolution for his hometown club.

The 23-year-old attacker was one of the Netherlands’ star performers at the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals in five appearances at the mundial.

He began his footballing career as a youth at PSV and made his first-team debut for his boyhood club back in February 2018. He made his senior international debut for the Netherlands back in 2021 and has so far scored an impressive six goals in 14 games for his country.

Man United, on the other hand have expressed their interest in Gakpo for some weeks, and are now quick to move when they learned that the Dutch club are facing financial difficulties, making PSV more willing to negotiate for the imminent release of their attacker.

Gakpo almost moved to Old Trafford last summer, but the deal could not be completed.

Manager Erik ten Hag who is a big fan of his fellow countryman, believes United can sign Gakpo for less than £50 million when the window opens next month, and they also believe the addition of Gakpo to his squad could bring some much-needed hunger and aggression to Red Devil's attack, particularly after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent in November.

According to Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano; “Cody Gakpo hasn’t changed his mind on Manchester United.

“He was keen on joining last summer and this is still the case, discussions with his agents have always been positive.

“It’s on Man United now, time to decide internally about €55/60m investment.”

It was previously reported that PSV had plans to sell the player for at least €75m, but will now settle for a fee around €60m upwards.

However, the transfer expert and journalist was quick to also point out that as of yet, there have not been any direct negotiations between the two clubs.

Gakpo has been in sensational form for PSV lately, having already scored nine goals and made 12 assists in 14 league games this season, while also having netted three times and notched up two assists in the Europa League.

He also impressed for the Dutch outfit last season, when he scored 12 goals and made 13 assists in the league to help his club to finish second in the division.

Following his nation's elimination at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup, Gakpo has already returned to PSV ahead of the resumption of the Eredivisie season.

Meanwhile United having returned to competitive action after the five-weeks World Cup break, defeated Burnley 2-0 in the Carabao Cup last Wednesday courtesy of goals from Christian Eriksen, and Marcus Rashford.

They prepare to host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
