Unhappy Mendy REJECTS New Chelsea Contract Offer, Wants Parity With Kepa.

Edouard Mendy has reportedly rejected the chance to sign a six-year contract at Chelsea, with the goalkeeper unhappy with the wages that have been placed on the table.

The Senegal international still has another two-and-a-half years left to run on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but the club have been in discussions with his representatives over a new deal.

According to The Sun, Chelsea placed a six-year contract on the table, but it was rejected by Mendy, who believed that the wages offered were 'disrespectful'.

The report claims that the 30-year-old currently earns around £100,000 a week, but he wants a deal worth in the region of £200,000, which would take him level with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Despite Mendy not playing regularly this season, especially since the arrival of Graham Potter, the AFCON winner is aware of his accolades since joining the Blues but feels disrespected by the deal on offer. 

The Senegal shot-stopper was the club's undisputed number one during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns, while he has played nine times this season, and was instrumental in the club’s triumphant Champions League season, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup success.

He has represented the club on 104 occasions in all competitions, but lost his role as number one to Kepa in October.

New manager Potter has preferred Kepa in goal since taking over the West London side, But an injury to the Spaniard forced Mendy to reappear between the sticks. 

Unfortunately for Mendy, Chelsea has been in not good form, as they endured a three-game losing streak in the Premier League against Brighton, Arsenal, and Newcastle before the World Cup break.

The Blues have actually only picked up two points from their last five league games, with their last victory in England's top flight coming away to Aston Villa on October 16.

Potter was asked about Mendy's contract situation in his press conference ahead of the resumption of the Premier League, and he was not able to give much of an answer – he simply said it was “not his place” to comment on it.

“That’s with the club and with the player. He’s a great guy and he’s been absolutely top with me and with Chelsea.

“There's still no agreement to extend his contract at this stage.

“It’s not my place to speak publicly about players contract situation.”

AC Milan, Juventus, Nice and Monaco are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation in the event that Mendy pushes for a move away from Stamford Bridge next year.

Chelsea would be hoping to return to winning ways when they play host to Bournemouth on December 27.
