Serie A: Victor Osimhen Continues To Make History As Napoli Gets Closer To Winning The Scudetto This Season.

Victor Osimhen can't stop scoring and making history, as he becomes the first Napoli player to score in seven consecutive Serie A games after netting in the Partenopei’s 2-0 win against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium on Friday night.

Serie A leaders Napoli moved 18 points clear at the top of the table following the away victory over 15th place Sassuolo.

Luciano Spalletti's men started on top as expected. They bossed the possession and looked like the more dangerous side.

The duo of of Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia proved too difficult for the Neroverdi side, as it took only 12 minutes for Napoli to score the opener through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who ran at the Sassuolo defenders from the midfield and striking a well-placed shot that crept into the net to make it 1-0.

It's was the 10th goal and nine assists in Serie A for the 22-year-old Georgian magician, as he is now fourth in the scoring charts and has the most assists.

Sassuolo's Armand Lauriente almost equalised two minutes later but his shot from inside the box hit the post.

Osimhen then doubled the lead for the Partenopei after 33 minutes when the Nigerian Super Eagles star received a long pass from Rrahmani and bullied two defenders who were on him. The Sassuolo defenders and goalkeeper Andrea Consigli were expecting him to pass the ball, but they were left shocked when he decided to go for goal from an almost impossible acute angle, and it paid off, as his powerful shot went straight into the net.

The goal takes the Serie A top-scorer Osimhen to 18 goals with 3 assists in 19 league appearances this season. The 24-year-old becomes the first Napoli player to score in seven straight games since the 1994-1995 season as per Opta.

The stunning strike was also the forward’s 100th career goal, 85 goals for his various European clubs, with 15 goals in 22 appearances for the Super Eagles team.

Osimhen has so far scored 42 goals in 70 Serie A games for Napoli, making him currently the second-best African top scorer in Serie A behind former AC Milan star, George Weah who scored 46 goals in 114 matches.

Armand Lauriente thought they had cut the deficit for the host just before the end of the first-half, but his effort was ruled out by VAR for an offside in the 40th minute.

The victory fires Serie A leaders a step closer to ending a 33-year wait for title. Luciano Spalletti's men continue their push to become Italian champions for only the third time and for the first time since 1989-90.

They could wrap up the Scudettto earlier than ever with their ruthless displays week in and week out, having only lost one league game all season.

Napoli currently have 62 points from 23 matches, 18 points clear off second-placed Inter Milan on 44 points.

Inter have a game in hand, when they entertain eighth-placed Udinese at San Siro on Saturday night.

Napoli finished above Liverpool in their Champions League group and play away at Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday night.
