Former Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr Is Appointed New Head Coach Of Benin Republic.

Former Nigeria Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, has signed a three-year deal with the Benin Football Association.

The French-German tactician will take over his 5th African national team job when he resumes at the Benin Football Federation headquarters in Porto-Novo.

He had previously coached Gabon, Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

According to La Nouvelle Tribune, Rohr will be unveiled by the Benin Football Federation during a press conference on Friday.

Rohr will take over the Cheetahs from former footballer, and current caretaker manager Moussa Latoundji '44', who has been in temporary charge of the team.

The 69-year-old was sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in December 2021 despite helping the Super Eagles qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and guiding the team to the final qualifying round for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He had also guided the Super Eagles to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and the 2019 AFCON in Egypt where he won the bronze medal.

 

Rohr's immediate task will be to help Benin qualify for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, despite already losing their opening two games in the qualifiers (3-1 away to Senegal, and a 1-0 defeat at home to Mozambique).

They currently sit bottom of Group L with no points as their next game would be at home to Rwanda on 22nd March, 2023.
