Man United ‘Eyeing Transfer Move' For Everton's Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to move for England No 1 Jordan Pickford whether David de Gea leaves or not.

De Gea has endured a mixed 2022/23 campaign facing criticism from some United fans, despite winning the coveted Premier League Golden Glove award, keeping 17 clean sheets in 38 appearances in the competition.

He also made several high-profile errors especially the Premier League game against West Ham, which showed that his shot-stopping ability is also declining.

He was single-handedly responsible for United’s exit from the Europa League quarter-final by Sevilla, and heartbreaking loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Manager Erik ten Hag wants a top shotstopper this summer to either rival De Gea or replace him if he does not agree a new contract, and cannot guarantee that De Gea will be the No 1 as he wants increased competition.

The Spaniard is not suited to the manager’s demands with his inability to pass the ball and help the team to build up play from the back. His reluctance to leave the line coupled with numerous shot-stopping errors has hampered the team’s play.

De Gea  will be out of contract at the end of this month, and he is currently in talks over a new long-term contract on reduced wages but so far it has not been agreed yet, leading to suggestions that the 32-year-old faces a battle to keep hold of his number one spot if he signs a new deal this summer.

According to The Sun, United are readying a move to bring Jordan Pickford to Old Trafford irrespective of De Gea’s future.

Pickford is the keeper at the top of their list and Everton would demand around £30million to sanction his departure.

The 29-year-old was excellent playing an instrumental role as the Toffees narrowly survived relegation and maintained their Premier League status, but the Merseyside club need money.

In 38 games last season, the England international kept eight clean sheets and he is good with his feet and is commanding in his box unlike De Gea.

Pickford would also love to play in the Champions League, which is missing from his CV, but some United supporters are against getting him to Old Trafford, as it would be a huge blunder.

Recent reports were linking the Red Devils with a move for Porto’s Diogo Costa while rumours were circling around a possible move for Brentford’s David Raya as well.

The fans believes it would be far better to go after Raya or save more to ultimately go for Costa than a move for Pickford whose shot-stopping can be questionable at times.

Interestingly, This is not the first time that Pickford had been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and United are not the only club chasing his signature.

Tottenham Hotspur are among the sides looking at Pickford with Aston Villa pondering a move too, should Argentine World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez leaves the Villa Park.

In order to beat their fellow league rivals, the 20-time English league champions could offer reserve goalie Tom Heaton to the Toffees, with Heaton playing under Sean Dyche back in Burnley.
