Mateo Kovacic CONFIRMS He Is Set To Leave Chelsea This Summer.
Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, has publicly stated that he expects to leave West London club, and now reportedly agreed personal terms with Manchester City after advanced talks already held last week.
Kovacic has enjoyed a five-year spell at Stamford Bridge after moving from Real Madrid in 2018, but that time now looks as if it has come to an end, with him having one year left of his Chelsea contract.
He is believed to have played his last game in the Blues colours when he came in as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on the final day Premier League fixture.
Despite Chelsea having a very terrible season, that saw the Blues finished the Premier League in 12th, a staggering 27 points off fourth place, Kovacic has still managed to put up impressive performance.
The 29-year-old made 37 appearances for the Blues in all competitions this season, scoring twice, as well as assisting twice.
In total, he has made 221 appearances for the Blues scoring six goals, and winning the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
He’s delivered a lot of great individual performances, usually with either Jorginho or N’Golo Kante alongside him in the midfield.
The Croatian star has been subject to speculation linking him with a move to another Premier League side Man City this summer, with incoming Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino allowing him to depart.
Kovacić wants the move, next step has to be between clubs as Chelsea and City will discuss fee after the UCL final on Saturday.
According to reports, Chelsea are prepared to do business with City for his sale, and are demanding a transfer fee of around £35million, though.
Pep Guardiola looks to refresh his squad, as hd could lose influential midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer amid interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia, Riyad Mahrez, João Cancelo possibly leaving, and other others, like Kalvin Phillips, not quite living up to expectations so far .
City who are already Premier League champions and FA Cup champions, will clinch an historic treble if they beat Inter Milan in this weekend’s Champions League final.
Bayern Munich and former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel have also has an interest in bringing Kovacic to the German Bundesliga.
In an interview with Croatian publication Nacional HR while away on international duty, as Croatia prepares to face the Netherlands in the Nations League semi-final, Mateo Kovacic had this to say on his Chelsea future.
“I have one more year with Chelsea, this season was very bad.
“Everything is going towards the fact that after 5 good years I will change, but in football anything can happen.
“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say.
“Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. The summer is long. We’ll see what happens”
“Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League."
Meanwhile, Chelsea are now targeting a move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo after failing to secure Sporting Lisbon star Manuel Ugarte, who now looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Mason Mount has also reportedly agreed terms with Manchester United, and N’Golo Kante is edging closer to a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad as part of a major midfield rebuild under Pochettino.
