Tottenham Close To Appointing Ange Postecoglou As New Manager.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has reportedly agreed to become Tottenham's new manager on a two-year contract.

This comes after Spurs officially approached Celtic for permission to speak to Postecoglou following their 3-1 Scottish Cup win over Inverness at Hampden Park on Saturday June 3.

Postecoglou brought the Scottish Premiership title back to Celtic Park in his first season, and his team successfully defended their crown in 2022-23 while also scooping the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup to complete a treble.

Celtic granted the permission for the Australian tactician to speak to the Premier League club on Monday, and now he could be announced by Spurs within 24 hours.

However, Postecoglou refused to commit his future to Celtic following the club’s latest trophy. Speaking after sealing Celtic's historic eighth domestic treble, taking them one above arch-rivals Rangers, Postecoglou told BBC Scotland: "I'm going to be a little bit selfish here, because around me, my family have worked really hard to enjoy this moment.

"As disappointing as that may be, that's what I'm going to do. I anticipate enjoying this moment for the next 24-48 hours, as long as I can, before someone drags me away and takes my attention away from enjoying something that’s been hard-earned."

Athens-born Postecoglou's only experience in Europe before joining Celtic in 2021 had been a spell in charge of Greek lower league side Panachaiki in 2008.

The 57-year-old has won the Australian title with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar, Japan's top flight with Yokohama F Marinos and also led the Australian national team to victory at the 2015 Asian Cup.

Spurs have been looking for a new manager since Antonio Conte's exit in March, with the Italian interim replacement Cristian Stellini lasting less than a month, before ex-midfielder Ryan Mason steered the ship for the final month of the campaign with no progress in the teams form.

They finished eighth in the Premier League and face a first season without European football since 2009-10.

Ange Postecogloue would become the London side's fourth permanent boss employed by chairman Daniel Levy, after Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte, since the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.

In taking on the Spurs job, Postecoglou will have his work cut out to get them competitive again, as he becomes the fourth permanent manager employed by Daniel Levy since the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in late-2018.

The Athletic reported that the final elements of the deal are being finalised before an announcement in the coming days.

Tottenham has been unable to get their hands on any silverware since they lifted the League Cup under Juande Ramos in 2008.

Pochettino who is now at Chelsea did lead the club to the Champions League final in 2019, where they were ultimately beaten by Liverpool. And they also reached the Carabao Cup final in 2021. But the team lost to Manchester City on that occasion and haven’t realistically been in contention for any major trophies over the last two years.

Meanwhile, Celtic are lining up Jesse Marsch or Brendan Rodgers as potential replacements.

Rodgers was Celtic manager for two and a half seasons between 2016 and February 2019, where he left them mid-campaign to take over at Leicester City.

The Northern Irish manager has been out of work since being sacked by an already relegated Leicester earlier this season, with Marsch still looking for a route back into football management after leaving another relegated side Leeds United.
