Man United Defeats Arsenal Twice "Over 90 Mins, and On Penalties In U.S Pre-season Friendly.

Manchester United began their pre-season tour of America with a 2-0 win against Arsenal at MetLife stadium in New Jersey on Saturday night.

The match was played in front of a stadium soccer record crowd of 82,262.

Although the Gunners kicked off their pre-season with a 1-1 draw with Nurnberg, Mikel Arteta's men bounced back with a 5-0 victory against the MLS All-Stars team on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag's side started their pre-season friendlies by beating Leeds United 2-0 in Oslo and picked up a 1-0 win over Lyon in Edinburgh in the mid-week, maintaining their perfect return to football action. 

Both sides named strong lineups for the high-profile clash that came three weeks before the start of the Premier League season, with Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber all handed first Arsenal starts. Goalkeeper Andre Onana did not make the United squad.

MAN UNITED XI: Heaton, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Mainoo, Mount, Fernandes, Antony, Garnacho, Sancho.

The Gunners began to get on top in the match, but two errors though proved costly, as United took complete control over a team that finished above them in the Premier League last season.

Bruno Fernandes who was newly named the new United’s captain after replacing Harry Maguire in the role, opened the scoring on the half hour mark as he let fly from distance and Aaron Ramsdale was unable to produce what should have been a comfortable save, letting the ball through him. 

A few minutes later that lead was doubled in the 37th minute, Gabriel terrible clearance just inside his own half and Jadon Sancho, playing through middle, as a false nine in an outfield lineup, was on hand to pounce on his mistake, running through on goal and produce a superb finish into the top corner.

Arsenal created a number of chances but failed to find the net, including Gabriel's late header which was deflected wide.

After the final whistle, the two teams took part in a penalty shoot-out, with both managers having decided their players needed to practise in front of a crowd.

United won that too, 5-3, after Arsenal's Fabio Vieira skied his effort over the bar.

Casemiro, Dalot, Lindelof, Rashford, and Eriksen all successfully converted thier spot-kicks for the Red Devils, while Odegaard, Trossard, Jorginho scored theirs for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta's men will now travel to Los Angeles to take on Barcelona at SoFi Stadium Wednesday night, although they will travel to the west coast on Sunday in the knowledge the Catalans had to call off their game against Juventus due to a virus sweeping through the camp, before returning across the Atlantic to face Monaco in the Emirates Cup on August 2.

Manchester United have three games left in their U.S. pre-season tour. They face Wrexham in San Diego on Tuesday, Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday, and Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas on July 30.
