Quique Setién Appionted To Succeed Ernesto Valverde As Barcelona's New Manager.

Barcelona football club announced on Monday, that they have parted ways with Ernesto Valverde, ending his contract as Manager of the club....


Quique Setién succeeds Ernesto Valverde as Barcelona manager.

The 55-year-old has spent 3 years with the club, since his appiontment in the 2017/2018 season, succeeding previous Manager Luiz Enrique.
He was in charge for 145 games, getting 97 wins, 32 draws and 16 defeats, winning a back-to-back La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup. 

Despite currently sitting top of the La Liga table midway through the season with 40 points, same points with second place team Real Madrid but top on goal difference, The former Valencia and Atleticò Bilbao manager, Valverde has been under immense pressure at Barcelona, due to his sides poor tactical style of play and failing to win the Champions League during his stay at the club, crashing our of the competition twice in two different occasions, in an embarassing manner. 



First was the Champions League Quater-final knock-out game with Roma in 2018, where he let a 4-1 home multiple-goal win advantage slip away in the second leg visit to the Olympic Stadium, as Roma defeated them 3-0 and qualified to the next round due to away goals rule.

The same senerio repeats itself in the 2019 Semi-Final Champions League game with current European Champions Liverpool, he lost a first leg 3-0 home win advantage, making Liverpool stage an all time sensational European comebacks, at Anfield for the return leg, as Liverpool defeated them 4-0, and progressed to the final of the competition.


After a recent schocking 3-2 home defeat to Atleticò Madrid last Thursday in the Spanish Super Cup, Valverde has become the first manager to be sacked inevitably mid-season at Barcelona since after the sack of Loius van Gaal in 2003.

Barcelona thanked him all for the services he rendered to the club during his days in charge, and wished him all the best in future.

Barcelona also announced via their Twitter handle, that they have appointed former Real Betis Manager, Quique Setién as the new man to succeed Ernesto Valverdo as Manager of the club until 2022. 

The 61-year-old manager who defeated Valverde in his own game at the Camp Nou 3-4 with Real Betis in November 2018, and also got a win against Real Madrid and Atleticò Madrid, before he parted ways with the club at the end of last season, will now become the 60th manager in Barcelona's history.

The former Las Palmas and Real Betis Manager, now has the task of restoring the team's traditional high-pressing and incisive-passing tactical style which the Barcelona faithfuls love to see.

His first game would be against Granada at the Camp Nou on Sunday.


Quique Setién in a statement once said in May 2019: "When a player like Xavi retires, it's as if a kidney is removed. And the day that Messi retires, I will cry forever."
