"Serena Williams" Handed A Shocking Defeat By "Wang Qiang" In The Australian Open 2020
Seven-time champion Serena Williams has been knocked out of the Australian Open, losing 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 7-5 to China’s Wang Qiang in the third round.
The 8-seed Serena lost to 27-seed Wang Qiang a player she just defeated in 44 minutes at the 2019 US Open four months ago.
The defeat means an early exit for Serena Williams in the Australian Open, the last time she lost at this stage was last 14 years ago, when she lost to the now retired Slovak tennis player Daniela Hantuchova 6-1, 7-6(5).
Serena who is now in her 23rd year as a professional, falls to the ground bowing her head, as she walks off the court offering a gracious wave to her fans, as her quest to equal Margaret Court's all time record of 24 major Grand Slam singles title has been halted for the mean time.
"I really think a champion is defined not by their wins, but by how they can recover when they fall" said the 38-year-old.
