Aletico Madrid Slashes Players And Staff Wages Amid The Coronavirus Outbreak
Atletico Madrid football club, have confirmed that the wages of players and staff of the club, will be reduced during this present Coronavirus pandemic.
With the Coronavirus crisis in Spain currently affecting the wages of players snd staff in other football clubs in the Last Liga, Atletico Madrid is out left out as they have also considered imposing salary reductions, in line to safeguard jobs and the financial capability of the club during this difficult period.
Diego Simeone's team last match before the suspension of football activities was when they travelled to play in the Champions League round of 16 return-leg clash against the defending champions Liverpool at Anfield, in which they won the game 3-2 after extra time, and 4-2 on aggregate.
The match drew so much criticism following the 3000 Atletico Madrid fans who travelled from Spain to England to watch the match despite the COVID_19 outbreak.
The club's president Enrique Cerezo, told AS that;
"We went to Liverpool because we had to play there and it wasn't called off, we had the obligation to play, If they had told us that we shouldn't have gone, we wouldn't have gone.”
"Noting that there have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus at the club."
"Our players, coaching staff and technical crew don't have a problem with the pay-cuts, because they will always rise to the occasion."
Atletico Madrid are currently not in the top five of the league standings before it was suspended, as they sit sixth with 45 pionts, and 3 points below third place team Sevilla who has 48 points
