Tragic News, As Atletico Madrid Annouces The Death Of Two Footballers In Less Than Two Days.

Tragic news, as Atletico Madrid annouces the passing away of two footballers in just the space of two days.

The Rojiblanca family have been thrown into mourning, as teenager Christian Minchola Sanchez dies at the age of 14, and a club legend José Luis Capón González who has died at 72 years.

The U-14 striker, Christain Minchola, is an Academy player who joined the side in the 2013/14 season, and currently in his sixth season as a Rojiblanco.

The young promising attacker has recorded a staggering 50 goals for the side before his death on Saturday, with the cause of death yet to be revealed by the club.

Atletico Madrid first team coach Diego Pablo Simeone, shared his support for those closest to Christian: "With all my heart I send my condolences to Christian's family and friends. Rest in peace."

Club captain and midfielder Koke, who also is a product of the Academy, was very affected by the loss of the young lad, as he pays tribute:
"Anger and pain at having to say goodbye to Christian Minchola. Life is very unfair. Proud that you have dressed this shirt. Much encouragement to colleagues , family and friends. Rest in peace. "

Meanwhile shortly after the announcement of Christain Minchola, the club also announced of the passing of José Luis Capón González, who is a former defender who died on Sunday in his hometown, after suffering from pneumonia resulting from Coronavirus.

Capón is one of the best defender of the club, who played for over 9 seasons (1971-1980) for the Spanish side, making 269 official appearances, in which he stood out as a solvent and versatile defender for the team.

He won the Spanish League, Spanish Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup  in 1974, before moving to Spanish club Burgos on loan and then to Elche in 1980 where he retired.

Capón sensational performances in the defense of Atleti, opened the doors for him in the  Spanish National Team, making 13 caps for the national team.

The Club Atlético de Madrid, on behalf of its President, Enrique Cerezo, of its Chief Executive Officer, Miguel Ángel Gil, of the Board of Directors and of all its employees, have offered their sincere condolences to the departure of both players Christain and Capón, to all their family, friends and colleagues for such an irreparable losses. Rest in peace!

Atletico Madrid have also confirmed the flag outside the Wanda Metropolitano stadium will be flown at half-mast as a tribute to both players and to all those fans who have died in recent weeks
