Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mourns The Death Of A Rising Female Basketball Star, Deborah Onu.

The Nigerian baskeball world have been thrown into mourning, following the tragic death of a rising star Deborah Onu.




Deborah Onu who has being diagnosed with tuberculosis of the spine, gave up the ghost early Saturday morning at a hospital in Abuja due to complications from the desease.


The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), annouced the passing away of the youngster, through the Secretary General of the Federation, Olabisi Afolabi-Oluwayemi while briefing the board.

According to her, the late Onu was responding to treatments after undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Primus Hospital, Karu before the sad incidence.

“We were told she showed marked improvements and was gradually being eased off life support before her condition took a turn for the worst overnight before giving up the ghost. This is very sad and painful.”


The NBBF President, Engr Musa Kida, has been distraughted with grief following the death of the promising and talented basketballer at such a young age.

“Our thoughts are with the parents, coaches and team mates at these dark hours. We pray for her gentle soul to find repose with her creator while granting those she left behind the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

“We are comforted that she died knowing that Nigerians cared for her."

"From the reports we gathered, she was wrongly diagnosed for months by different Doctors which made her case more complicated.”

Kida concluded that the Burial arrangement will be announced shortly by the family.
