Nigerian Striker Taiwo Awoniyi Has Been Rushed To The Hospital Following A Nasty Collision On The Pitch.

Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi suffers an injury following a nasty collision during the Bundesliga gameweek 31 match between his club, Mainz 05 and Augsburg on Sunday.

The 22-year-old forward was stretchered off the pitch and was rushed to the hospital, after he had landed badly following a clash of heads with Augsburg’s Felix Uduokhai in the first half of the match.

Awoniyi, who joined Liverpool in 2015 is yet to make a single appearance for the reds, and he is currently on a season-long loan with Mainz 05 since last August.

He has made 12 appearances in 479 minutes for the German side in the Bundesliga this season scoring only one goal.

The former Nigerian youth international and Under-17 world cup winner, has also had numerous loan spells at German side FSV Frankfurt, Dutch team NEC and Belgium sides Royal Excel Mouscron and Gent.

A first-minute strike from forward Florian Niederlechner won the game for Augsburg, as they secure all three points away from home.

The victory for Augsburg moves them seven points clear of the relegation play-off place, as they sit 13th with 35 points in the league standings, while Mainz are left in15th place on the table with 31 points, and just three points above the relegation zone with three games left to play.

According to a statement from the club Mainz, Awoniyi is in stable condition and will spend the night at the hospital.

“We have received the all-clear from the doctors,” said Mainz coach Achim Beierlorzer.

“He has regained consciousness and can remember the things that happened.

“He has a severe concussion and has to stay in hospital for observation.”

Mainz next match will be away to second-placed Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, while Augsburg will host Hoffenheim same day.
