Zinedine Zidane Expresses Unhappiness On The News Of Lionel Messi Leaving Barcelona Next Season.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane expresses unhappiness of Lionel Messi wanting to quit Barcelona, as he wants him to remain in the La Liga, not withstanding the fierce rivalry between both clubs.

According to reports from Spanish radio Cadena SER, the Argentine international Lionel Messi has halted a contract renewal with Barcelona, as he wants leave the club on a free transfer when his £500,000-a-week contract expires next summer (2021).

Messi seems to be unhappy and fed up at the Camp Nou, after growing frustrated with the present atmosphere at club, and the fact he gets blamed whenever things go wrong.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner has been involved in a lot of controversies surrounding the Catalan club in the past, one of which when the Barca players were being selfish in refusing to take a pay cut following the suspension of football activities in Spain due to the coranavirus pandemic, but Messi responded by calling out the Barcelona board for implying such.

Reports from Spain also suggest that the Barcelona captain and some other players are unhappy with present manager Quique Setien, who has failed to win over the dressing room since replacing Ernesto Valverde in January, and Messi was accused of playing a big role in the sacking of Valverde.

Lionel Messi who turned 33 last week, is currently the top goal scorer in the La Liga with 22 goals and 17 assists, while Karim Benzema is second with 17 goals and 7 assists.

But surprisingly, when Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was asked about Messi's future at Barcelona following his side's 1-0 win over Getafe on Thursday night, the Frenchman said:
"I don't know what will happen but we hope not because he is in this league [La Liga], and we want the best in this league.'

Real Madrid only recently rised above Barcelona who had been on top of the league table for so long with a slim advantage before the lockdown. Madrid are now four points clear at the top with 74 points and five more games left to end the season.

Barcelona next game is away to Villarreal on Sunday, while Real Madrid also play away to Athletic Club earlier same Sunday.
