Alex Iwobi Test Positive For Coronavirus Ahead Of AFCON Qualifiers.

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has tested positive for Coronavirus and will miss both 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against the Squirrels of Benin today, and Crocodiles of Lesotho next Tuesday.


According to reports, the players and officials of the team took the Covid-19 test on their arrival at Cotonou from Lagos on Friday evening, but it happened that Iwobi who was expected to be named in the starting eleven today failed the test and would now be self-isolating.

Benin will also be without midfielder Rodrigue kossi and forward Jacques Bessan after the duo tested positive for Covid-19.



The 24-year-old Everton player last came in as a substitute in their 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final last Saturday.

He has made 31 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees this season, scoring 2 goals and 3 assist.

Iwobi was part of the team that finished third in the 2019 AFCON tournament, and has made 44 appearances for the Super Eagles scoring 9 goals since his debut in October 2015.
