Man United Set To Offer Solskjaer A New Contract As Manager Of The Club.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be offered a new contract worth £10m-a-year even if he fails to win a trophy for the club this season.

The 48-year-old Norwegian is yet to win any silverware at Old Trafford since his initial appointment as a caretaker manager, following the sack of Jose Mourinho in December 2018, before permanently signing a three-year contract as manager in March 2019.

His present contract which expires at the end of the 2021-22 season, would be extended by two-years, and an option for a third year with his salary go from £7.5 to £10million-a-year.

According to the Times, the United hierarchy believes that the club is happy with the progress they have seen under Solskjaer in his two-years in charge.

Solskjaer who has 15 months left on his existing contract is yet to reach a formal agreement with the terms and details around an extension with the executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, which likely will happen at the end of the season.

CloudNine Sports understands that despite crashing out of the FA Cup quarter-final following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Leicester City last Sunday, the former Cardiff City and Molde manager only hopes of delivering a trophy for United this season is winning the Europa League, a competition they last won in 2017 defeating Ajax 2-0 under former boss Jose Mourinho.

United are currently in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and have been tipped as favourites to lift the trophy after an impressive round-of-16 victory over AC Milan.

They would play Spanish side Granada in the quarter-finals after the draws was made last Friday, should they progress, they will face Roma or Ajax in the semi-finals.

Even if United do not win the Europa League this season ,the club have insisted that Solskjaer's future won't be determined by that.

The Red Devils look well placed to qualify for the Champions League next season, as they sit second in the Premier League, 14 points below City rivals Man City who are first, and 9 points above sixth place Tottenham Hotspur.
