Asisat Oshoala Wins Her First UEFA Women's Champions League Title With Barcelona (Match Report And Highlight)

Nigeria's Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala has won the UEFA Women's Champions League title as a Barcelona femení player...

Oshoala also becomes the first African player to win the Women's Champions League.

Barcelona femeni cruised to a massive 4-0 victory on the night over Chelsea women at the Gamla Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden.

They are the first team from Spain to lift the trophy, and the first club to have lift the men and Women's Champions League.

The Blaugrana scored four goals in the first half through Melaine Leupolz own goal in the 1st minute, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen, whichever confirmed the Spanish champions’ superiority all before the break.

It was Chelsea first ever final appearance, while Barcelona have reached the showpiece once before, losing 4-1 to seven-time winners Olympique Lyonnais at the Groupama Arena in Budapest just two years ago with Asisat Oshoala scoring the only goal which was not enough for the Spanish club, as it was like a mere consolation.

Though Oshoala who was a doubt for the final fixture, did not start the game after she was barely declared fit by the team doctors following an ankle problem.

Rather she was subtituted in, replacing Jenni Hermoso in the 71st minute of the encounter.

The 26-year-old scored a total of four goals in nine matches in this season competition, which includes a goal in Barca’s 4-1 win at PSV and her side’s 5-0 victory over Fortuna Hjørring in the earlier rounds of the competition.

She also scored a goal each in both legs of her side’s quarter-final games against Manchester City.

The former Rivers Angels, Liverpool and Arsenal player, has so far helped the Barcelona team dominate the Spanish league and become title contenders in Champions League since joining Barcelona from Chinese football club side Dalian Quanjian in January 2019.

Only last weekend, Oshoala helped the team  wrapped up a historic La Liga Iberdrola, Spain's top-flight for women's soccer, and claimed the title for the sixth time in the clubs history.

The Cules won the league unbeaten, winning all 26 of their games this season with a remarkable 128 goals scored - with Oshoala scoring 15 of them - and just five conceded. Twenty-six wins and 78 points out of a possible 78.

The four-time African Women's Footballer of the Year, has now added the Champions League trophy to the two league titles, the Copa de la Reina, the Supercopa Femenina, and the two Catalunya Femenina cups she has won during her successful three-year stay in Spain.
