RECORD!.. Lionel Messi's Copa America Picture, Has Become The Most Liked Post In Instagram History.

Lionel Messi’s picture of him holding the Copa America trophy has become the most liked photo from a sports athlete on the photo-sharing platform (Instagram).

The Barcelona star captained his national team to victory in the just concluded tournament with a 1-0 win in the final against Brazil.

It is the first major International trophy the attacker has won with Argentina, having previously lost in three Copa America finals and a World Cup final.

The 34-year-old post of him holding the trophy after the win in the Maracana Stadium has broken Cristiano Ronaldo's record for the most liked Instagram post. 

Messi post has racked up to almost 20.2 million likes, surpassing that of Ronaldo's (19.8 million likes) post where he payed tribute to Argentine legend Diego Maradona following his death.

Messi was also awarded the player of the tournament award for his performances in Brazil.

He was the joint-top scorer in the Copa America alongside Colombia star Luis Diaz with four goals, while he also registered five assists.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner is currently a free agent after his contract at Barcelona expired.

Sources claims that he is expected to commit to a new deal with the Catalan club soon having agreed to take a 50 percent pay cut to and sign a new five-year contract extension, which would keep him at the Camp Nou until 2026.
