Former City Star Nicholas Otamendi And Family Assaulted And Robbed At Home. l

Benfica defender Nicolas Otamendi is reported to be the victim of a violent assault at his home on Monday morning.


Four individuals are said to have assaulted the former Manchester City defender who was with his family (wife and son) and put a belt around his neck to force him to comply with their orders, before robbing money and watches from him.


The sad incident reportedly happened after Otamendi returned home in the early hours of Monday morning from his side’s Primeira Liga match against Famalicao on Sunday which they won 4-1.

His house located in the city of Almada when the intruders broke in.


According to reports, the thieves fled the scene with money and watches from Otamendi’s home, with the crime already being investigated by the Portuguese Judiciary Police.

 

Portuguese club Benfica have released a statement to respond to the incidence.

“Benfica confirms that its player Nico Otamendi was the victim of a robbery at his home during the early hours of today...reads the statement.

“The player and his family are doing well, despite the enormous discomfort generated by the situation they are experiencing.

"Benfica asks that the privacy of the player and his family be respected by all the media, pending the completion of the investigations initiated by the authorities.”


The Argentine international won two Premier League titles with City in his five seasons stay at the Etihad stadium before joining the Portuguese giants in September 2020 as part of the deal that saw Ruben Dias go the other way in the summer of 2020.


The 33-year-old was part of the squad that won the Copa America title with Argentina  in July.
