Maduka Okoye Wins The Eredivisie Goalkeeper Of The Month For March.

  • Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has emerged winner of the Dutch Eredivisie Goalkeeper Of The Month Award for March.
  • He has been named as number one goalkeeper in the Eredivisie Team of the Month for March after an impressing performance.

The Nigerian international who is currently in superb form, did not conceded a single goal for Sparta in the month of March, helping his team avoid defeat in the two games played.

Sparta Rotterdam sealed a 1-0 win at home to Go Ahead Eagles, and held NEC to a goalless draw away just before the international break.

The professional football league in the Netherlands (Eredivisie) made the announcement via their official Twitter handle on Friday evening.

You may recall that prior to the two games, the Super Eagles goalie produced a man-of-the-match performance against Vitesse early in March, and was later attacked by the home fans and also confronted a pitch invader.

Okoye had kept a cleansheet, and saved a penalty in the fixture at Vitesse, which was abandoned in stoppage time with Sparta winning 1-0 at the time.

Overall, he has kept four (4) clean sheets in the Eredivisie this season from 21 appearances.

Okoye signed for English Premier League club Watford in January, but will remain at Sparta, on loan, until June 2022.

CloudNine Sports had reported that he missed the Super Eagles 2022 World Cup double-header qualifying playoffs games against the Black Stars of Ghana due to illness and was replaced by Francis Uzoho in goal for those fixtures.

Sparta Rotterdam will next host Heerenveen at the Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel on Sunday 3rd April, 2022 at 1:30pm (NGA).

Sparta have taken seven points from their last four Eredivisie matches as they battle desperately to avoid relegation, with two wins from their last three games at home.

While Heerenveen are unbeaten in their last three matches just before the international break.
