•  AC Milan have emerged Italian champions for the first time in 11-years (2010-11), defeating city rivals and defending scudetto winner Inter Milan for the 2021/22 league trophy.
  • Rafael Leao provides 3 goals, Giroud scores 2, Ibrahimovic fulfils promise as AC Milan win their first Scudetto title since 2010-2011.
  • All three goals came in the first half as Milan held on to the lead and sealed their 19th Serie A title.

The Rossoneri became champions of Italy for a 19th time as they swept aside Sassuolo by a scoreline of 3-0 in their final game of the season.

Coming into the game Milan knew that one point against Sassuolo would have been enough to finish above their closest competitors Inter but going into half-time they knew the job was done regardless of the result at San Siro.

AC Milan started on the day, as the first and second goal were remarkably alike as Rafael Leao twice made a dangerous run to the byline and twice cut the ball back to Olivier Giroud who was waiting at the near post to finish past Consigli in the 17th and 32nd minute respectively.

The third goal came four minutes after the second and it was again thanks to pressure high up the pitch as Leao again got a third assist of the game in the 36th minute, with Franck Kessie this time applying the finishing touch in his final game.

The 22-year-old Portuguese Leao was star of the game, as he provided all three goals for Milan in their most important game of the season.

A clean sheet for Mike Maignan was the perfect sign-off for what has been an incredible season, as Milan can hoist the Scudetto proudly above their heads for the first time in 11 years, dethroning their city rivals in the process.

Milan has had a dismal decade, with Juventus winning nine consecutive titles before Inter ended a long title drought last season. But it's the San Siro's red side that's celebrating right now, having tied Inter for the second-most titles in Italian history (19; both are behind Juventus' official count of 36).

Milan manager Stefano Pioli was further named the best coach in Serie A this season, whilea Leao named the MVP of Serie A this season

Another name that rose to the top of the trends was veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The legendary Sweden striker was part of the AC Milan team that won the 2011 Scudetto and 11 years later a champion with the same team.

Ibrahimovic has played for several clubs in his career but expressed loyalty to Milan.

On the other hand, Inter Milan defeated Sampdoria 3-0 on the final day of the 2021/22 Serie A season, thanks to goals from Ivan Perisic, and Joaquin Correa's brace.

The defending champions were hoping to retain their Scudetto when their local derby rivals AC Milan faced off against Sassuolo.

However, their victory was not enough on the day as it could not stop AC Milan to secure the Serie A title after similarly cruising to a comfortable win against Sassuolo on Sunday evening.

Their win over Sampdoria means they finished the 2021/22 Serie A season two points behind league leaders and newly crowned champions AC MIlan.
