Erik Ten Hag Fires First Warning To Guardiola And Jurgen Klopp In First Man United Press Conference.

Erik Ten Hag was unveiled as Manchester  United's new manager on Monday, replacing interim boss Ralf Rangnick after a turbulent season at Old Trafford.

The club also confirmed the appointment of Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren as Erik ten Hag’s assistant coaches.



The former Ajax boss who held his first press conference as Man United boss, insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo will still add goals to his side next season, and also praised Harry Maguire,  but offered no guarantees on his captaincy role.

Ten Hag, believes he can break Man City's and Liverpool's duopoly of English football while Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are still in power.


City and Liverpool fought out another dramatic title race on Sunday after dominating the domestic game again this season, finishing more than 30 points clear of United who languished in sixth place.

City won their fourth Premier League title in five seasons on Sunday, finishing a point ahead of Liverpool thanks to a 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa.

While Guardiola and Klopp remain in command, many predict City and Liverpool will continue to dominate the Premier League.



Ten Hag, on the other hand, is sure that United can surpass the two Premier League leaders before their respective managers go.


When asked if he thinks City and Liverpool's supremacy will end before Guardiola and Klopp leave the Premier League, Ten Hag said;

"I admire them both, Manchester City and Liverpool. They both play fantastic football. But you will always see an era come to an end.

"But you will always see an era come to an end, and I'm looking forward to bettering them, and I'm sure all the other clubs in the Premier League will want to do that.' Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have been leading the way for a while now.

"I think it can, absolutely"... added the Dutchman.


Speaking on the Man Utd’s last game against Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park which he was present live at the stadium he said; "I observed it, I analysed it, but it's for me. I wasn't in charge and I take this information into the new season."

Ten Hag was also asked if Harry Maguire will remain Man Utd captain: "Next season is a different season. He did a great job, he is a great player, achieved a lot with a contribution to Man United. I'm looking forward to working with him."

When asked if Man Utd can win the Premier League, ten Hag said; "I don't think about that at this moment. I'm thinking that this is a project and it takes time. We want to win every game. We go from game to game and then we'll see.

"I want to build and construct a team who are battling for each other, who are unified and who will get results. Also we are playing in the Theatre of Dreams. We want to entertain.

"I have been in Bayern Munich, I have been in Ajax and now I come to Man United. I know our opponents are highly motivated, they are over-motivated to beat this great club, and we have to be ready for that. To go and win that battle.

"Everywhere I was in my career, I have high demands on my players. I expect them to fight and give 100%. I already mentioned that only good is good enough. No, not only that, we have to do better and they have to co-operate.

“In certain positions we want to renew the squad, but as I said, one year ago, this squad was second in the league, so there is potential and I’m really looking forward to co-operating with the squad.

“I don’t see taking this be job as a risk. This club has a great history and now, let’s make a future.”



United ended the very disappointing season with a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, leaving them 35 points behind champions City.

It's going to be a season to forget for the Premier League gaints who finished with their worst points tally since the Premier League began in 1992 (58), 0 goal difference, Most goals they've conceded in a Premier League season (57), Liverpool and City did the double on them, and dropped into Europa League.


Ten Hag also confirmed that Man United would begin their pre-season on 27 June and will get a few of the squad, [a few] of the individual players, as the entire squad won’t be together until July, due to the international football that is scheduled over the summer.


The Red Devils will travel to Bangkok, Thailand, Melbourne, Australia, and Perth, Australia for pre-season tour 2022.

They take on Liverpool on 12 July at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand’s capital. The squad will then fly to Australia where they will face Crystal Palace, Melbourne Victory and Aston Villa.

Moreover, one football executive claims United will not play any pre-season friendlies in England this summer.
