Carlos Tevez Appointed As New Manager Of Rosario Central Just 17 Days After Retirement.

Carlos Tevez, a former Man United and Man City striker, has been named the new coach of Argentine Primera Division side Rosario Central.

On Tuesday, Rosario Central announced the news via its Twitter account.

"Carlos Tévez is the manager of #RosarioCentral!" it tweeted.

He takes over at Rosario Central from Leandro Somoza, who stepped down from the position after just three months in charge.

After signing a 12-month contract with the club, Tevez will be accompanied by a very peculiar coaching staff - he'll work alongside his former national teammate Carlos 'El Chapa' Retegui.

"I am really excited about the project I am putting together with my brothers and Chapa Retegui," Tevez said on his excitement of moving into coaching before landing the job at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito.

“I have decided to coach, We have been working together for four or five months and we are putting together a really good, global project. I am really into this.”

Following the loss of his father, Tevez announced his retirement from professional football on June 4 at the age of 38.

Despite receiving offers to continue playing football, including in MLS, the former Argentina international cited the death of his father, whom he regarded as his "number one fan," in early 2021 as a factor for his choice to retire.

From 2006 until 2013, Tevez played for West Ham United, Manchester United, and Manchester City in the Premier League, scoring 114 goals in 276 appearances across all competitions for the three teams.

The former Juventus man had most recently been playing for his native club Boca Juniors in Argentina, and had been without a club since July last year following his release before announcing his retirement.

Tevez's first game as manager, will be on July 24 against Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata on Matchday 5 of the Primera Division.
