OFFICIAL: Arsenal Confirms The Signing Of Fabio Vieira From FC Porto.

Arsenal have finally confirmed the signing of Fabio Vieira from Portuguese club side FC Porto, and will pay £30m up front plus £4m in performance related add-ons.

The Gunners made the announcement via their Twitter handle today, a day after the Premier League’s official website seemingly leaked the deal.

Vieira, who underwent his medical in north London last week, won the player of the tournament award at last year's European U21 Championship.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with this signing over the past week or two, and appear to have wrapped the deal up quickly with Fabio becoming Mikel Arteta's second confirmed signing of the current window following the arrival of 19-year-old Brazil forward Marquinhos from Santos.

Fabio will wear the 21 jersey this season, as declared in his announcement video, in which he claims he couldn’t be prouder to have joined such a great club.

After signing a long-term deal with the north Londoners, Vieira said: "I’m thrilled, of course. This is an important step forward in my career. Arsenal is a huge and historic club, so I’m delighted to be here at my new home."

He added: "As I said, Arsenal is a historic English club. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everyone knows that Arsenal are a fantastic team. That was one of the main factors behind me choosing Arsenal. I really like the way the team plays and I can’t wait to get started."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: ”I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.”

The 22 year-old midfielder, who made 54 appearances during his time with Porto, developed through the Portuguese club’s youth academy, making his first team debut in June 2020 and was part of the Primeira Liga winning squads in both 2019/20 and 2021/22.

Fabio Vieira scored seven goals and provided a whopping 16 assists across all competitions last season, and has scored 13 goals in 21 appearances for Portugal U21s.

He his set to add creativity to Arteta's midfield going into the new 2022/23 season.

Mikel Arteta's men failed to win a single trophy last season and also couldn't secure Champions League qualification after losing to spot to fellow North London rivals Tottenham, and had to settle for the Europa League.
