Eddie Nketiah Handed New Shirt Number Following His Contract Renewal

Arsenal announced on Saturday that Eddie Nketiah has signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.

The 23-year-old, who has been with Arsenal since he was 14, was nearing the end of his previous contract.

Crystal Palace had been connected with Nketiah, but he has now committed his future to Arsenal.

From next season, Nketiah will wear the number 14 shirt, which was formerly worn by record goalscorer Thierry Henry, Theo Walcott, and was just recently vacated by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"I'm glad Eddie is sticking with us," manager Mikel Arteta said on the club's website. He embodies all we stand for and all of the club's ideals.

"We are overjoyed that he has extended his contract; now we must get down to business and continue to develop the amazing talent and person we have in him."

“Eddie was released by another team when he was a young man, but he has always demonstrated that he possesses both the mentality and the potential to become a top player.

"The fact that he's signed a new deal is a big element of our squad's plans for next season, and we're all excited about it."
