Nigeria Super Eagles Trash São Tome and Principe (10-0) In 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.

Nigeria Super Eagles cruised to a massive 10-0 victory against São Tome and Principe in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game on Monday afternoon. 



Sao Tome ranked 183rd in FIFA ranking went into the game aiming to out up a more impressive performance after crumbling 5-1 to Guinea-Bissau in their opening Group A fixture on June 9. 

The island nation have only won ten official competitive games since joining CAF in the late 1970s.

While the Super Eagles were fresh from a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone starting their 2023 AFCON qualification behind closed doors in Abuja last Thursday.


The game which went down at the Stade D' Agadir in Morocco, saw Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, and Terem Moffi put Nigeria in control producing a 3-0 scoreline before the interval.

The Super Eagles went rampant in second half with despite their commanding lead, with Osimhen again scoring a brace in the 48th minute with Lookman supplying the last pass.

The harvest of goals continued five minutes before the hour mark after England-based Etebo curled home a beautiful free-kick that was unstoppable by the goalie.


Moffi completed his brace five minutes later by poking home a cross from Zaidu Sanusi.


Former England youth international Lookman opened his Nigeria account after capitalising on a poor goalkeeper by Sao Tome and Principe goalkeeper before Osimhen wrapped up the game with his third and fourth goal while Emmanuel Dennis netted from the penalty mark in the highly-entertaining fixture.



It was a solid start for the new Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Peseiro as the Portuguese racks up two wins and 12 goals in his first two competitive matches after losing his first two friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador in US tour. 


Nigeria now lead Group A with six points from two matches, while the Central Africans remain at the base of the log with no point.


The next international action for the Super Eagles will be in September when they face Guinea-Bissau in a key clash that could determine the table topper in Group A.
