Firmino, Arnold Shines As Liverpool Hammer Bournemouth To End Winless Record

 Liverpool's 9-0 thrashing of newly promoted Bournemouth on Saturday tied them for the best victory in English Premier League history.

A poor start to the season for Jurgen Klopp's team was exacerbated by unexpected draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace as well as a loss on Monday against Manchester United. At Anfield, though, Liverpool's ferocious attack was at its peak as the team earned its first league victory and Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz each scored twice.

It's only the fifth time in league history that a club has scored nine goals, with the only other nine-goal victories coming from Man United (twice) and Leicester.

Within three minutes of the game's beginning, Diaz headed home his clipped cross in place of suspended summer signing Darwin Nunez, capping up an incredible first half by Firmino.

Then, Firmino assisted on Harvey Elliott's first league goal, a long-range rocket that would have won the day had Trent Alexander-miraculous Arnold's goal not come right after.

The Brazilian forward assisted in that goal and shortly after scored his own goal at Anfield, his first league strike there since December 2020, by turning in a deflected cross.

On the cusp of halftime, Virgil van Dijk scored Liverpool's fifth goal, and just after the break, Chris Mepham scored an own goal to continue the barrage.
