Real Madrid Come Out Victorious Against Atletico In A Heated Madrid Derby.

In the Madrid derby on Sunday night at the Wanda Metropolitano, Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 thanks to goals from Rodrygo and Federico Valverde.

An eventful Madrid derby was decided by the visitors' clinical first-half display, as Atleti tried hard to come back but fell just short.

Real Madrid scored both of its goals in the opening period of the game in the Spanish capital, outlasting its fierce rivals, who managed to score one late on through Mario Hermoso.

Real Madrid's victory has allowed them to start the 2022–23 season with nine consecutive victories in all competitions, including their first six league games. They are now ahead of Barcelona in the La Liga standings.

Antoine Griezmann partnered Joao Felix in the final third of the field as the Frenchman made his first appearance of the season.

Due to the difficulty of Griezmann's loan from Barcelona, there has been much speculation about his future. Diego Simeone's team allegedly agreed to pay £35 million for the attacker next summer if he plays in at least 45 minutes of 14 of Atletico's games this season.

Atletico had the first half-chance of the match in the sixth minute when Felipe climbed high to meet a deep free kick from Marcos Llorente, but his header dropped onto the top of the net. This came after a flurry of fouls in the opening exchanges.

In the 36th minute, Real Madrid extended their advantage when Valverde scored at the far post after Vinicius Junior had entered the Atletico area and hit the wall.

But in the 83rd minute, Hermoso used his back to score an Atletico goal by converting a corner kick from Griezmann after Courtois had mishandled the ball inside the penalty area.

After that, Real Madrid's final exchanges were tense at times, but the defending Spanish and European champions held on to earn all three points. In contrast, Atletico finished with 10 men after Hermoso received two yellow cards late in the game.

The Los Blancos head into the International break sitting on top of La Liga. Maintaining a 100% start to the 2022/23 season, having won 6 out of the first 6 games.
