Arsenal Youngsters Shine To Defeat Liverpool And Return Top Of The Premier League.

 The team led by Mikel Arteta has established itself as a genuine title contender, and the victory against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, was yet another important declaration of determination.

Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal the early advantage having pounced on a ball by Martin Odegaard just 54 seconds into the game.

Darwin Nunez went on to convert a cross by Luis Diaz in the 34th minute to pull Liverpool even.

Late in the first half, Saka gave Arsenal the lead once more following a swift counter attack by Martinelli. 

Although substitute Roberto Firmino pulled one back after the break courtesy of an assist from Diogo Jota in the 53rd minute.

Arteta's men weren't done, as the rollercoaster game then took another twist when Arsenal were awarded a penalty after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed a foul on Gabriel Jesus.

Saka stepped up to take the calm penalty in the 76tth minute which gave Arsenal their eighth victory in their last nine league games.

The champions Manchester City, who had assumed first place with a 4-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday, are now one point behind the Gunners.

The 3-1 victory over Tottenham last weekend strengthened the notion that Arteta has assembled a group deserving of respect. 

Arsenal is improving, whilst Liverpool is in disarray following their worst start in ten years.

"Thank you so much to the boys and our supporters for experiencing an afternoon like this," Arteta said after the game. "It's why we are here, and I really enjoyed it, especially the way we won.

"I've never seen it like this. You cannot imagine how much it helps the players and how much belief and confidence, how much support… it's one of the nicest things we've done since we've been together here - to unite everybody and feel like you go here and you're going to have some experience. It's great.

"The feeling of winning is so powerful and so meaningful for me today, I saw a team I really identify with, the personality they show in difficult moments, how they stick to what they have to do but at the same time, the belief, the courage, and the free mind to just go for it and attack them and put them under pressure."

Jurgen Klopp's team, who have lost their previous three league games, sit in 10th place, 14 points behind Arsenal. 

The Reds resemble a mere shadow of the team that came within two games of achieving an unheard-of quadruple last season.

Few would disagree now with Klopp's earlier admission that it was doubtful they would win the title following such a poor start.

Even if Klopp denies allegations that his demanding leadership style has depleted his team, it is shocking to see Liverpool with just two victories in their first eight league games on the seventh anniversary of the German's appointment.
