Haaland, Foden Combine To Hammer Man Unitedd In Manchester Derby.

As Manchester City hammered Manchester United 6-3 to pull within a point of Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden each scored a hat-trick.

With hat-tricks in each of his previous three home Premier League games, Haaland has now scored 17 goals for City in 10 competitive appearances for the English champions.

United avoided a record loss in the Manchester derby thanks to Antony's goal and Anthony Martial's late double. They are now sixth, nine points off the top.

Since also giving up four goals in the first 45 minutes against Brentford in August, United has recovered with four straight Premier League victories to give fans faith that Erik ten Hag's team is moving in the right direction.

But the gap between the Manchester giants was rudely brought to the Red Devils' attention.

City could have scored many more goals than the four they managed in a dominant first half display that dispelled any concerns sparked by Pep Guardiola's team's erratic start to the season.

Within four minutes, Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva were denied the first goal by two goal-line clearances and a superb stop from David de Gea.

When Foden scored his first Manchester derby goal by sweeping Silva's cross into the net four minutes later, City did let loose.

Before Haaland unavoidably made his imprint, Ilkay Gundogan's free-kick struck the post and Foden missed another excellent opportunity.

Raphael Varane was forced to leave the game at halftime due to an ankle injury, leaving United to lament his absence for failing to cover a De Bruyne corner.

Without the Frenchman, Haaland's presence in the penalty area proved unstoppable as his header crossed the line prior to Tyrell Malacia's errant clearance.

Later, when Jack Grealish feed De Bruyne, who then expertly picked out Haaland to score on the stretch at the back post, City showed off their ability to counter-attack.

For the third time in a year, United was losing 4-0 at the half thanks to a low cross from Haaland that Foden converted.

In contrast to 5-0 losses to Liverpool at Old Trafford and Brentford last month, there was some indication of a United comeback this time.

Antony scored his second goal in as many Premier League games since leaving Ajax for £82 million ($92 million).

When Foden scored to complete his hat-trick and put City on track to match the record margin of victory in a Manchester derby, Haaland set him up.

Foden played in the game only once before being replaced in a quadruple substitution so that Guardiola could afford to rest De Bruyne, Gundogan, and Grealish as well.

In the final 10 minutes, United took advantage of City's tendency to let up on the gas by using replacement Martial to score twice and reduce the deficit.

After Ederson parried Fred's attempt, the Frenchman valiantly headed in the rebound and then firmly drilled home from the penalty spot.
