Black Stars Of Ghana Lands Qatar In Style For The 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars of Ghana have landed safely at the 2022 FIFA World Cup venue in style on Friday afternoon.

Just hours after a morale-boosting 2-0 victory against Switzerland in their last warm-up game in Abu Dhabi for the tournament, Ghana squad led by head coach Otto Addo brought out the best in West African fashion as they touched down in Doha, Qatar.

The players, technical team, and management crew were all dressed in traditional attires (Fugu fabric) from the Upper West region of the country in what was a great show of fashion and culture.

A tweet about the outfit from the Ghana Football Association official handle reads. “The smock, Fugu, is a dress code attributed to the people of Northern Ghana. It is worn on solemn occasions and represents strength, courage, and leadership.”

The noticeable attire was designed with the yellow and black colors of the country.

Their West African counterpart, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were the last team to had also donned a traditional outfit while arriving to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Though Ghana who missed out of the 2018 edition, are back at the global tournament in what will be their fourth appearance after 2006, 2010 and 2014.

They would be hoping for a good outing this time, with their best-ever performance at the World Cup being in South Africa 2010 when they reached the quarter-final, losing to Uruguay after post-match penalty shootouts.

The four-time African champions, despite being the youngest and lowest ranked team at the 2022 World Cup with an average age of 24.7 years, would begin their campaign against the 2016 Euro champions Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.

Portugal on the other hand had used their strong rival Nigeria as a preparatory game for that Group H World Cup opener, and the European nation won the game in an emphatic 4-0 victory.

Ghana overcame the Super Eagles in the two-legged Africa qualification play-off on away goal rule after aggregate scores stood at 1-1 in March, to secure a ticket for the mundial.

The Black Stars would subsequently play against South Korea and Uruguay in the remaining group games.
