Erik Ten Hag Left Furious Following Man United's Dreadful 3-1 Defeat Against Aston Villa.

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has slammed his players for not following the rules as they suffer a dreadful 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devil's travelled to the Villa Park to face a rejuvenated Aston Villa side under a new manager Unai Emery in his return to the Premier League.

Man United were looking to continue their nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions under Erik Ten Hag but were left clueless as they were torn apart at Villa Park.

Ten Hag made some changes to the teams regular starting XI, in the absence of Bruno Fernandes through suspension. Donny van de Beek did not take his chance. Alejandro Garnacho got his first Premier League start, and Ronaldo also being handed the Captain armband for the first time since January, but all of those decisions didn't pay off.

The hosts raced into a two-goal lead within 10 minutes, thanks to Leon Bailey 7th minute strike, and Lucas Digne spectacular free-kick goal into the top right corner in the 11th minute.

Although United did manage pulled one back through Luke Shaw’s deflected effort just before half-time.

As if United didn't learn their lessons the second-half began the same way just as the first, with Jacob Ramsey scoring again for Villa having latched on to a pass from Ollie Watkins in the 48th to restore their two-goal lead.

United created a couple of wasted chances as they were held strong by very determined Villa defenders. The game ended in an historic 3-1 home win for Unai Emery's side in his first game in charge.

This historic win makes it back-to-back Premier League home wins for the first time either this season or last as they move up to 13th in the table.

It was Aston Villa's first win against United in 27 years (since 1995).

"I was dreaming it, and I am so happy," said the new Villa head coach afterwards.

"We have players with energy, with good skills. I think we wanted to be organised, to be disciplined. Being together and with our game plan, I think the players did it. It was a special day here.

"My challenge here is to be consistent. Today, I think it was so important to beat Manchester United after so long. Now it is about keeping consistent. Our next challenge is to keep the regularity in those matches away."

For United it was their fourth defeat in the Premier League this season, as they wasted the chances to close the gap on the top four. 

The result leaves them three points adrift of Tottenham, who occupy the final Champions League qualification place. 

"We lose the game at the start of the first half and second half, that is unacceptable. They looked more fresh, more ready. The result is clear, it never lies. In football you always get your own earnings. Today we were not good enough, it’s not acceptable to concede a goal so quickly after half-time on the counter." a furious Ten Hag told BBC Sport.

"After a long time this has happened, I said it was up to us. We didn't keep the ball, we didn't get the right organisation, didn't follow the rules and lost battles. Our players have experience."

Ten Hag was asked about knowing what formation Unai Emery will line his side up against.

He replied: “Our players are experienced, you have to get the right organisation and not concede goals.

“It was totally unnecessary. You have to stay together, compact, win your battles and stay on the ball, and all of that we didn’t do. It starts with following the rules. It is disappointing.”

Both teams would meet again mid-week in the Carabao Cup third round at Old Trafford this Thursday November10, 2022.

Villa then head to Brighton on Sunday November 13, while Man United head to Fulham same Sunday in the final Premier League match before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
