Victor Osimhen Shines Again, As Napoli Come From Behind To Beat Atalanta In The Serie A.

Victor Osimhen continued his impressive form in front of goal as Napoli fought back after falling behind to defeat Atalanta 2-1 away in the Serie A clash.

The game at the Gewiss Stadium on Saturday night, which was billed to be a battle between Osimhen and his Nigerian compatriot Ademola Lookman, both players were on target for their respective teams.

After a Lengthy VAR check, Osimhen was penalised for a handball in the box following an Atalanta corner. Ademola Lookman who is Osimhen's same countryman stepped up to open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 19th minute.

It was Lookman's fifth goal in his last six league games for La Dea, and his sixth goal in the Italian top flight this season which he celebrated by replicating Cristiano Ronaldo's new goal celebration.

The former Leicester City and Everton man has now equalled his best tally in a single campaign in Europe's top five leagues after just 13 games.

Not long after Atalanta had took the lead, Nigeria's Super Eagles striker Osimhen made amends when he headed the equaliser for the visitors in the 23rd minute courtesy of a cross from Piotr Zielinski, before brilliantly holding off Merih Demiral to set up Eljif Elmas winning goal in the 35th minute to make it 2-1.

The 23-year-old Nigerian has scored six goals in his last five games for the Parthenopeans, and has nine goals and two assists across all competitions.

Osimhen surpasses Simy Nwankwo to become Nigeria's all-time top scorer in the Italian Serie A with (32 goals), as he remains the league's top-scorer with eighth goals so far despite missing three weeks of action with an injury.

The victory for Luciano Spalletti's men sees them remain the only unbeaten team in Serie A this season with their ninth straight win leaving them top of the table with 35 points from 13 games.

Napoli remain on course to win their first league title in over two decades (1989-90).

They host Empoli in Serie A on Tuesday while Atalanta who have now lost back-to-back home games take on Lecce the following day.

AC Milan, who are second, are on 29 points after a 2-1 win against Spezia, leaving Atalanta in third place with 27 points from 13 games.
