OFFICIAL: João Cancelo Completes Loan Move From Man City To Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich have announced the signing of João Cancelo from Manchester City.

The Portuguese full-back joins the German giants until the end of the season with the option to join permanently in the summer for €70m (£61.5m).

Having supposedly suffering a fall out with manager Pep Guardiola in Manchester, Cancelo has been allowed to move on to the Bundesliga side.

He had signed a new five-year deal with the reigning Premier League champions in February 2022, extending his contract at Etihad Stadium until 2027.

However, he joins the German champions having only started three games since the World Cup in Qatar, his playing time has been reduced due to the emergence of teenager Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake's improved form.

Cancelo's last two appearances were in the defeats by Southampton in the Carabao Cup, and Manchester United in the Premier League.

"Bayern is a great club, one of the best in the world," Cancelo said on the completion of the transfer.

"I know this team lives for titles."

"It's enormous motivation for me to now play alongside these extraordinary players in a team," Cancelo added.

"I'm also driven by the hunger for success. I'll give my best for Bayern."

He also posted a goodbye message on his Instagram page on Tuesday which read: "Once a Cityzen, always a Cityzen. Thank you."

Ruben Dias, Ederson and former City player Oleksandr Zinchenko were among the first to post supportive messages in reply.

Cancelo joined Man City from Juventus in 2019 and has made 154 appearances for the club, scoring ten goals.

Under City boss Pep Guardiola, he has won two league titles and the EFL Cup and making two PFA Teams of the Year for the last two seasons, with Guardiola making the most of the 28-year-old’s attacking instincts from full-back, because of his ability to drift inside and act as a playmaker when City had the ball.

Hasan Salihamidzic, FC Bayern board member for sport, added: "Joao is a player we've been thinking about for a while now because we very much appreciate his qualities.

"He's the optimal fit in our system with his attacking style of play and dynamism, and his mentality and experience fit very well in our team. I'm convinced Joao will help us in the coming weeks and months where we want to win titles."

Bayern who have failed to win a game since the World Cup restart, starting the year with three consecutive 1-1 draws against Leipzig, Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt, have seen their Bundesliga lead shrunk from four points to one clear off Union Berlin, Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are all within three points.
