Man United Boss Erik ten Hag Reacts To The Humiliating 7-0 Defeat Against Liverpool.

Manchester United suffer their worst ever defeat in Premier League history after being heavily humiliated by rivals Liverpool.

Coming into the encounter at Anfield on Sunday evening, Man United had beaten Liverpool 2-1 in August to give Erik ten Hag his first win as United boss and they started the day 10 points clear of Liverpool.

Klopp’s side on the other hand, won the two league meetings between the teams by an aggregate score of 9-0 last season, but the tables had seemingly turned this season.

They have looked a shadow of the side that came close to winning an unprecedented quadruple of trophies last season.

The Reds shrugged off a season of frustration to put up a very impressive performance to dismantle Man United 7-0.

Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah each scored two goals before substitute Roberto Firmino added a seventh later on, with six of the goals coming in an explosive second-half display.

Gakpo who was heavily linked to joining his countryman Erik ten Hag at United before Liverpool hijacked the deal in January, opened the scoring for the Merseyside club in the 43rd minute after Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford had missed crucial chances to put United ahead earlier on.

Nunez then struck in the 47th just after the break to increase the lead for the host, and Gakpo again then made it 3-0 in the 50th.

While United looking to get back into the match, Liverpool went on the rampage.

Salah made it 4-0 in the 66th and Nunez struck again in the 75th.

It was 6-0 when Salah scored in the 83rd minute and Firmino stepped off the bench to score in the 88th.

The emphatic 7-0 victory sees Liverpool take advantage of the losses for top four rivals Newcastle and Tottenham on Saturday to strengthen its own bid to qualify for the Champions League.

They move up to fifth place, just three points behind Tottenham in fourth with a game in hand.

It was Erik ten Hag’s heaviest defeat as United manager and seriously hampered his  pursuit for a quadruple this season, with a Premier League title challenge now looking increasingly unlikely.

They had just ended a six-year wait for a silverware when they were crowned 2022/23 Carabao Cup winners following a 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the final at Wembley last Sunday.

Speaking after the devastating defeat, the Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag said;

“I think we played a decent first half. [We committed] one mistake in organisation just before half-time.

“Second half it was just not us. It was not our standards. We didn’t play as a team.

“It was unprofessional. Yes [I am angry]. Definitely.

“We didn’t stick to the plan and we didn’t do our jobs. We didn’t track back and it was really unprofessional.”
