Sadio Mane Allegedly Punched Leroy Sane In The Face After Bayern Munich's Defeat To Man City

Bayern Munich's Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane clashed in the dressing room after the German club suffered a devastating loss in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The two players had been seen arguing on the pitch late in the game, which continued and escalated in the dressing room.

According to multiple reports in Germany on Wednesday, Sane suffered a cut lip and was bleeding after the altercation before both players had to be separated by teammates.

Bild added that Senegal international Mane, a two times African footballer of the year, had complained about the way Germany winger Sane spoke to him after the 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

This has been a very dramatic season for Bayern Munich having recently sacked manager Julian Nagelsmann amid reports of dressing room discontent, and at the risk of missing out on winning the treble, they replaced him with former Chelsea, PSG and Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel.

The result against City was the German giants heaviest defeat in the Champions League since a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

Mane has had a not too consistent of a campaign in 2022-23 since joining from Liverpool in the summer, with a large part of it due to a leg injury he picked up on November 8 that saw him miss the 2022 World Cup with his country, but could face punishment from the club for his actions.

While the German Sane has been in Munich since the summer of 2020, leaving Man City to move to Bavaria in a transfer valued at €49 million. He reportedly has a mark on his face from the blow.

After their flight landed in Munich, Mane was picked up privately from the airport while Sane took the team bus.

Bayern Munich has refused to comment on the reported incident or the possible consequences.

Tuchel has so far has overseen four matches since he was appointed coach, including a league win over Borussia Dortmund, a loss to Freiburg that saw Bayern exit the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) and Tuesday's defeat to Man City which could be impossible to overturn when they play the second leg next week.

Bayern are still shaky at the top of the Bundesliga, as they are currently on 58 points after 27 games this year, second-placed Dortmund have 56 points with seven matches left to play in the league season.

They are next in action on Saturday against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, before hosting the Premier League champions Man City in the second leg at the Allianz Arena on April 19.
