Saka, Salah, Rodri MISS OUT On The Premier League Player of the Season Award Nominees For 2023/24 Season.

The Premier League have revealed a shortlist of nominations for the 2023/24 season's awards.

Eight players from six clubs have been nominated for the Premier League's Player of the Season award.

The nominees includes last season's winner of the prize Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland became the first player to win the player of the season award and the young player award last season after scoring 36 goals in 35 league games.

The 23-year-old Norwegian is in contention for the award again having scored 25 goals in 28 games this season, leading the Golden Boot charge once again as City chase a record fourth consecutive title.

With the exception of former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who took home the award in both the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons, no other player has won it twice consecutively.

Haaland alongside his fellow City team-mate Phil Foden are among this season nominees.

Foden recently picked up the Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association. The England international has scored 16 league goals and provided eight assists this season.

Over the last four seasons, a City player has taken home the award; Haaland's triumph follows in the footsteps of Kevin de Bruyne in 2019–20, 2021–22, and Ruben Dias in 2020–21.

The nominees also includes, Arsenal midfield duo of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice who have both played pivotal roles in Arsenal's pursuit of a first league title in 20 years.

Odegaard has eight goals and eight assists, while England's midfielder Rice has nine goals and seven assists in his first season since joining from West Ham in the summer.

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer is also nominated for the Player of the Season. He only joined the Blues from Man City in September and has scored 21 goals and provided nine assists despite the West London's club poor performance this season.

Palmer recently scooped up Chelsea's Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year at the Blues' awards ceremony this week.

Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk complete the shortlist.

While Wakins has enjoyed a prolific season with 19 goals and 12 assists, Isak has 20 goals and one assist and Van Dijk, who won the award in 2018-19, has already led Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup trophy this season.

Notable players who missed out on the eight man Premier League Player of the Season shortlist is Man City's midfielder Rodri.

Despite playing vital role to his team's contention of defending their crown, the Spaniard omission is indeed a shock to many.

Since a loss at Tottenham in February 2023, City has gone 47 games without losing in the league when Rodri has played for the team.

There's no place for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon who also misses out on both the Player of the Season and the Young Player of the Season nominees.

This season, Gordon has been key for Eddie Howe's side, scoring 10 goals and creating 10 assists in 33 top-flight appearances, earning him his first senior England call-up in the process.

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka also misses out despite the England star scoring 16 league goals this season. Though the 22-year-old is one of the nominees for Young Player of the Year.

England striker Dominic Solanke has 18 goals and three assists for Bournemouth, while Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has 18 goals and 10 assists in the 2023-24 campaign - both also failed to make the shortlist.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for their preferred player before voting closes on May 13, the winner, decided by the public vote and a Premier League panel, will be announced on 18 May.
