Carlo Ancelotti To Depart Real Madrid After Four-Year Stay And Become Brazil New Head Coach.

Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid and become the new boss of the Brazil national team, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have said.

The Real Madrid boss who has had rumours swirling about his future with Los Blancos in recent months, agrees a deal to become new Brazil head coach from end of season; and will depart the Spanish capital to take up new position on May 26.

Don Carlo Ancelotti has been at Real Madrid since 2021 in what is his second spell with the club, having also coached them between 2013 and 2015.

All in all, the Italian won 15 trophies as Real Madrid manager.

The 65-year-old has endured a difficult season with the Spanish giants, and failed to win a major title in his final season at the Bernabeu.

He has won two LaLiga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, as well as two Champions Leagues during his second spell at the club.

As defending champions, Real Madrid was knocked out of this season Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Arsenal losing 4-1 on aggregate to the North London side.

He lost the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona and look set to finish as runners-up in the league following Sunday's El Clasico 4-3 defeat to Barcelona.

He will leave the Bernabeu for the final time the day after Los Blancos last game of the LaLiga season against Real Sociedad.

In a statement, the Brazilian FA (CBF) hailed the "landmark moment of the coming together of two icons", highlighting their unrivalled five World Cup wins and Ancelotti's historic record in European football.

“The greatest national team in the history of football will now be led by the most successful coach in the world,” the CBF said.

The man behind getting the former Chelsea and Everton boss to Brazil, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, said in a statement: "Bringing Carlo Ancelotti in charge of Brazil is more than a strategic decision. It is a statement to the world of our determination to regain the top spot on the podium.

"He is the best coach in history, and now he is leading the best national team on the planet. Together, we will write new glorious chapters for Brazilian football.

"Ancelotti is expected to lead the side into the World Cup - taking place in the US, Canada and Mexico next year - with the contract set to expire once the tournament has ended."

The world's most successful national team have been on the lookout for their fifth head coach in two-and-a-half years since the dismissal of Dorival Junior at the end of March.

This will be Ancelotti's first international role, but he will take over Brazil as one of the most decorated managers in club football and the only coach to win each of Europe's top-five leagues.

He will become the nation's first permanent foreign head coach, and first ever Italian to manage the national side.

He will be in charge for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Ecuador next month.

This new development, will pave the way for Xabi Alonso to step into the hot seat at the Santiago Bernabeu.

His current side, Bayer Leverkusen, announced last week that Alonso would be leaving at the end of the 2024-2025 season, having won them their first Bundesliga title last season. 

The Spaniard has been widely reported to be taking over as new Real Madrid boss, signing a three-year deal in the coming weeks, which is likely to see their former midfielder taking charge of their Club World Cup campaign in June.

The former midfielder played under Ancelotti during the Italian's first spell in the Spanish capital, where they won a Champions League together, beating city rivals Atletico Madrid in the final, although Alonso played no part in the game.

Announcing his departure, Alonso said: “I owe great thanks to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, my players and staff, all the employees of the club and last but not least the fantastic fans. Our success was the result of an outstanding team performance.

“This club, who showed exceptional trust in me, very much deserved to win the German league title for the first time.

“Bayer 04 are ready for the future. The positive path will continue and I will be excited to follow it.”
