OFFICIAL: Napoli Have Announced The Signing Of Nigerian Star Victor Osimhen.

Napoli have today officially announced the signing of Nigerian star Victor Osimhen from French club Lille for a club record fee of €50million plus bonuses.

Napoli annouced the permanent signing via the club's website, despite being linked with a move to the Premier League, particularly Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United who were top contenders.

The 21-year-old striker signed a five-year deal with the Serie A side.

Osimhen who was delighted following the club's annoucement of the move wrote on his official Twitter handle;
“Can’t wait to put on this iconic jersey, thank you for the warm welcome Napoli,”

"Napoli like Lagos"... He added
"Mom and Dad would be for sure proud of this".

The youngster began his career as a teenager with Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos and turned professional shortly after his 18th birthday when he joined German side Wolfsburg.

He spent the 2017/18 season in Germany before moving to Charleroi on loan the following year. He was an instant success in the Jupiler Pro League in Belguim, netting 20 goals in 36 appearances.

Osimhen moved on to join Lille in July 2018, €14m and he scored 18 goals with six assists in 38 competitive games in his debut season for the French side.

He also won the club’s Player of the Season award having helped the club to a fourth place finish with 49 points.

With his move to Stadio San Paolo, CloudNine Sports understands that, Osimhen has now become one of the most expensive African/Nigerian player of all time, and the most expensive signing in Napoli’s history, a record that was set last summer by Hirving Lozano from PSV Eindhoven for €38m plus bonuses.

French and Nigerian reports continue to insist the price was €81m, but that probably includes his salary.

He will wear the Number 9 jersey, which is currently held by Fernando Llorente.

Victor Osimhen was seen as a hotshot, after his sensational performance at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he emerged the tournament top scorer with 10 goals, as the Golden Eaglets were crowned champions.

He was also among the top three nominees for the African Youth footballer of the year last January, alongside fellow compatriot Samuel Chukwueze, and Morroco's Achraf Hakimi.

He made his full Super Eagles debut in June 2017 and so far has 10 caps and four goals to his name.
