I Want To Be The Best Player Against Real Madrid As Winning The UCL Would Mean Alot — Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne expressed his excitement for the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid after receiving the Etihad Player of the Month award for March.

The Belgian playmaker also won the award for April, beating Gabriel Jesus with four goals and four assists. He has netted 15 times and provided 12 assists in 39 appearances overall this season.

While City is frequently involved in high-profile matches, few are more significant than a journey to the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday to face Real Madrid in the semifinal return-leg clash for a place in the Champions League final.

It would represent a chance for the Citizens to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

De Bruyne scored the opener in the first leg of their semi-final clash before teeing up Gabriel Jesus for the second. This came after scoring the sole goal for City over both quarter-final legs against Atletico Madrid.

Despite lifting 16 trophies since the 2008 takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group, Kevin De Bruyne has stated that winning the Champion League alone would take the club to another level.

De Bruyne is eager to go back on the field,es he said via the club's website.

"I've always wanted to play on a huge stage."

"I wanted to be the best player I could be, and you have to perform in these big games if you want to accomplish that." A semi-final versus Real Madrid is no exception, and I am looking forward to it."

Since the beginning of March, Man City midfielders has scored seven goals in ten games, putting him in a strong vein of form in front of goal.

City will have a "difficult game" against Real Madrid, who were recently crowned the 2021/22 La Liga Champions for a place in the final against Liverpool in Paris.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea last year, City could make their second successive final if they get past the Spanish champions.

"We have not won the Champions League before, but winning it would change that little narrative"... De Bruyne told a new conference on Tuesday.

"The fact we've been fighting for numerous years and getting to the latter stages means we've been doing really well,"

"It's a cup competition and the quality is very high so it's very difficult to win it."

Manager Pep Guardiola is set to advance to his fourth UCL final in his career, and has previously said he needs to win the competition with City otherwise his time at the club will be judged as a failure.
