Cristiano Ronaldo Returns To Man United First Team Training After Serving Punishment.

Cristiano Ronaldo has now returned to training with the Manchester United first team at Carrington after serving his punishment.

Ronaldo '37' had refused to come on as a late substitute and for walking down the Old Trafford tunnel early just before the end of last week Wednesday's 2-0 deserved win over Tottenham, and instead of going to the dressing room, he left the stadium entirely.

The Portugal forward was left away from the United squad that drew 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening as part of the punishment, having also been exiled from first-team training.

Ronaldo released a statement on Thursday via his official Instagram account, which said: "As I've always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches. That hasn't changed. I haven't changed.

"I'm the same person and the same professional that I've been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision-making process.

"I started very young, the older and most experienced players' examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I've always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I've represented.

"Unfortunately that's not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us.

"Right now, I just feel I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my team-mates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was.

"This is Manchester United and united we must stand. Soon we'll be together again."

However, manager Erik ten Hag and the Portugal forward have since been in constant dialogue, as the Dutch tactician reportedly allowed Cristiano Ronaldo back into the team this week on two conditions.

According to The Athletic, Ronaldo must accept his reduced role in the squad and express “contrition” over his behaviour last week. He must “accept flexibility over his selection.

Ten Hag, who has given his side Monday off ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against FC Sheriff, has explained Ronaldo is still part of his plans, and will still have a role to play this season.

Ronaldo could feature against managerless Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday.

United currently sits second and in a strong position to qualify from their Europa League Group E, three points behind leaders Real Sociedad and six ahead of third-placed Sheriff with two games to go.
