OFFICIAL: Alex Iwobi Joins Fulham From Struggling Everton On Transfer Deadline Day.

Nigerian star Alexander Iwobi was one of the players to make a very late move on transfer deadline day, following his transfer to Premier League club Fulham from struggling Everton side on a permanent deal.

The 27-old-old midfielder Iwobi has played in two of Everton’s three Premier League games this season, but missed Saturday’s home defeat to Wolves with injury. The Toffees are yet to pick up a single point so far.

He joined Everton from Arsenal in the summer of 2019 and made 123 league appearances for the Toffees, scoring six times.

The move ended his four year stint at the Goodison park.

Fulham paid £22m, including add-ons to get the deal done overnight, with Alex Iwobi signing a five-year deal with the Whites as he links back up with his old Everton boss Marco Silva.

“I’m buzzing, I just can’t wait to get started, I’m excited to start my journey here,” he told the club’s official website.

“Marco Silva spoke to me about the ambitions of the Club, and I’m on board. Hopefully I can bring something to the Club.”

 The move for Iwobi went through despite Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha's transfer to Bayern Munich collapsing earlier in the day.

Palhinha had been given permission to travel to Germany by the Cottagers, on the understanding a replacement would have to be signed before the transfer would be approved, as talks continue over a deal with the Bundesliga champions. 

Bayern were ready to offer a fee expected to be about £65m, which would have been a club-record transfer fee for a Fulham sale, but the Cottagers stood firm and refused to part with one of their most influential players until they had strengthened that area of Marco Silva's team.

Fulham were unable to bring anyone in and the German transfer window shut at 5pm on September 1, with no deal signed off.

Despite having a medical in Germany, the collapse of the Palhinha deal will be a bitter disappointment to the 28-year-old, who had set his sights on playing Champions League football, and also to Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel, who saw him as a key acquisition after signing England captain Harry Kane.

The Portugal midfielder would become the second significant departure from Craven Cottage this summer, following Aleksandar Mitrovic’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Meanwhile, Fulham also completed a loan deal for 26-year-old AC Milan and Senegal left-back Fode Ballo-Toure.  

Iwobi is in line to make his debut for Fulham against champions, Manchester City on Saturday.
