Investigations Are Ongoing Over The Injury Crisis Faced By The Club This Season... Says United Boss Erik ten Hag

Manchester United are set to open investigation into this season's deepening injury crisis after losing Lisandro Martinez (calf) and Victor Lindelof (hamstring) for at least a month with the club set to face Chelsea and Liverpool in four days.

The re-occuring injuries Ieaves manager Erik ten Hag bemoaned considering how thick and fast the games are coming towards the end of the season.

United have suffered continuous setbacks throughout the campaign with under-pressure boss Ten Hag often unable to field his strongest line-up.

The brewing injury crisis deepened this week, as Martinez and Lindelof became the Latest casualties, and now joins Luke Shaw who limped off against Luton Town in February, and Tyrell Malacia on the sidelines.

Lindelof was in the starting line up in the 1-1 draw away at Brentford last Saturday, only to be substituted in the second half with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

His replacement was Martinez, but now the club have confirmed that the Argentine has sustained a calf strain in training.

Martinez had only returned to action for the first time since February and has only featured 11 times for Red Devils in an injury-hit second season at the club.

Varane also went off at the interval but has recovered in time to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, and Evans also returns after missing the last two games with a calf injury.

There was more good news for United when Harry Maguire, who replaced Varane at Brentford despite doubts over his fitness, trained on Tuesday.

According to reports, Ten Hag says that the club have launched an internal investigation into their debilitating injury list this season.

Asked why United were suffering so many injuries, Ten Hag said on Wednesday: 'l"We have an idea but we will work on that internally and deal with it.

"There are no more issues, we don't need any!' said the Dutchman.

"In the front line and midfield we are okay and we have options there, but in the back line we have a lack of options.

"The good thing is that Varane and Evans are in training this afternoon. Yesterday Harry Maguire was back in training."

Ten Hag further blamed United's persistent injuries on an 'overload' of games and pointed out that other Premier League teams have suffered as well.

"You can't prevent it, it's not only us who've had this,' he added

"The standards of the Premier League from an intensity perspective are so high, the overload of the schedule, international football is so huge, and we have internationals in our squad.

"Man City, Liverpool and Newcastle have problems, many other teams. We don't train because we recover then you go up to the next game."

Man United are currently sixth in the table, 11 points adrift of fourth places Aston Villa and that automatic UEFA Champions League spot, although they do have a game in hand.

But these latest injury setbacks are doing nothing to help Ten Hag, who has both the Premier League battle to fight as well as an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry to consider.
