Super Falcons Cruised Past Burundi To Reach 2022 WAFCON Quarter Finals.
Nigeria's Super Falcons cruised past Burundi 4-0 in their final group C game on Sunday to advance to the 2022 WAFCON quarterfinals.
The Burundians were no match for the Nigerians, who controlled the game from start to finish.
Rasheedat Ajibade comfortably converted a penalty after being taken down on 25 minutes to give the Falcons the lead.
Peace Efih scored for Nigeria on 28 minutes, and Uchenna Kanu added a third from close range a minute later.
Ifeoma Onumonu came close to scoring in the 37th minute, but her delicate effort was easily gathered by Burundi's keeper.
A minute later, Kanu scored the fourth goal, but the referee disallowed it for offside.
However, she was unstoppable in the 46th minute to give Nigeria a 4-0 victory and a brace for herself.
Despite the comfortable win, Nigerian Super Falcons could only finished 2nd with six points in the group, three points behind the Banyana Banyana side who defeated them in the opening match.
Meanwhile ,South Africa defeated Botswana 1-0 in their last group stage game.
Super sub Nthabiseng Majiya was the hero for Banyana Banyana against Botswana.
The Mares who are making their debuts also qualified for the WAFCON quarter-finals as best losers despite losing two consecutive games. They had won their first match 4-2 against Burundi.
The Super Falcons will now take on the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon in the tournament's quarterfinals later this week.
Nigeria Coach Randy Waldrum speaking ahead the clash said; "We understand the history between Nigeria and Cameroon. It will be a difficult game and we are looking forward to the game. Changing of venue won't be any factor, the pitch will be fantastic and the players are also looking forward to the game."
